A hole in the wall with tasty food and a tamarindo margarita, count me in any day of the week! Candelaria is a tiny restaurant with an even smaller menu that changes often but is always finger-licking good (been there and done that). This time around I ordered the fresh guacamole, frijoles, a nopal, two chuletas and several margaritas. I would have ordered more but I was scared of being judged by the skinny French girls sitting at the table next to me. Candelaria offers a complete Mexican experience with traditional Mexican specialties like Jaritos, Valentina sauce and tequila-filled drinks that make you crave a beach in Cancun. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the staff is friendly. Candelaria is one of my all time favorite places in Paris where you get good food at a great price around fun people.
The guacamole is as fresh as it gets. When they run out they make more.
The nopal is a Mexican tostada with cheese and cactus, if it is on the menu then definitely order it.
The chuletas are cooked in beer topped off with red onion and cilantro. They are served in pairs on a soft taco.
Candelaria is not just a great restaurant at night – they open up the back room and it’s a speakeasy bar with cocktail menu. Stay tuned for part two of my post about the bar.
